Free Screenings and Information at Health Fair October 14

Memorial Health System’s Fit and Fine Wellness Health Fair will be held Monday, October 14, from 7:00 to 9:30 a.m. in the Memorial Hospital lobby, 511 NE. 10th Street, in Abilene. There will be health information that pertains to everyone including free screenings, very low cost lab tests, free specialty services, and a variety of free health information.

Heartland Health Care Clinic (HHCC) will offer flu shots for $48 unless otherwise covered by the individual’s health insurance. Recipients do not have to be patients of HHCC to receive a flu shot, but will need to pay cash. Individuals who are established patients of HHCC are asked to bring their health insurance cards, and clinic staff will process insurance claims.

Memorial Hospital’s Lab will offer a lipid panel that analyzes cholesterol, HDL, and LDL for only $20. This test also determines if you have or are at risk for diabetes. Those interested should fast for 12 hours prior to the blood draw.

Other tests available include: PSA $25, TSH $25, Iron $15, HA1C $25. Screenings and specialty services include: carotid artery screening (carotid sonogram), balance/fall risk screening, depression screening, chronic disease risk screening, and mini-mental status exam which will offer a quick and simple way to quantify cognitive function and screen for cognitive loss.

Free items and health information will be available at Fit and Fine Wellness booths. Informational items on sleep studies/pulse ox, 3D mammography, caregiver support group and caregiver eduction, and free chair massages. Also available will be free blood pressure checks and advanced directives/durable power of attorney information on long-term care.
