Herington Hero Award Winner – Debbie Wendt

Home Health & Hospice of Dickinson County in Herington (HH&H), an affiliate of Memorial Health System in Abilene, is proud to announce our newest Herington Hero Award recipient: Debbie Wendt. Congratulations, Debbie, and thank you for taking care of Herington!

Debbie Wendt is a shining example of what it means to serve your community with heart, humility, and an unstoppable spirit. A dedicated volunteer across many organizations, Debbie’s impact in Herington is not going unnoticed. She has volunteered her time and talents with St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Herington Library, the Family Resource Exchange (FRE), Meals on Wheels, and countless community events and causes.

As a former city clerk with 30 years of service, Debbie continues to be a pillar in the community well into retirement. She currently serves as treasurer for St. Paul, helps with funeral lunches, is active in the Altar Guild, serves as a greeter, and counts offerings. She also dedicates time at the local thrift shop and delivers Meals on Wheels. She serves on the Library Board and helps at the Herington drag races.

Her nomination said, “Debbie has probably served on every committee Herington has ever had. From boat races and Chamber of Commerce activities to the fireworks committee and American Legion projects. She helps with everything she is asked to work on. She is always willing, always friendly, and always helpful, even with her limited mobility, she continues to work in the community.”

When receiving her award, Debbie humbly said she loves Herington and believes others deserve the recognition more than she does. “I’m retired and I have the time,” sheshared. “I enjoy helping out.” If you know someone like Debbie who deserves to be recognized as a Herington Hero, we would love to hear from you! You can fill out a nomination form online at: http://mhsks.org/herington-hero-award/ or stop by our office at 11 N. Broadway. We’re always happy to see you!
