HOPE Lives

Hope Lives is more than a breast cancer awareness event, it is a powerful movement of women supporting women right here in our community. Each October, Hope Lives brings together survivors, families, friends, and local businesses to raise awareness and critical funds for breast health initiatives in Dickinson County.

Proceeds from Hope Lives help fund the Free Mammogram Program through Memorial Health System’s Radiology & Imaging Services, providing no-cost mammograms to uninsured and underinsured individuals in our community. Funds also support the Elsie Brooks Memorial Cancer Fund, helping offset care expenses for those undergoing treatment.

In addition to raising awareness, Hope Lives launched the Hope Lives Chairs program, a free resource for women recovering from mastectomy surgery. These specially designed recovery chairs travel from woman to woman, offering comfort, independence, and encouragement during the healing process. Each chair carries with it a journal filled with shared stories of strength and support, along with a handmade pillow from the Memorial Health System Volunteer Corps.

Year after year, Hope Lives continues to grow, raising thousands of dollars that stay local and directly impact the lives of women and families in Dickinson County. Together, we rally. Together, we give hope. Together, we ensure that hope truly lives.

HOPE Lives Comfort Chairs

This is FREE!  This is a gift during your journey!  You just have to arrange for pick-up and return of the chairs.

Jonee Crump, Foundation Manager at Memorial Health System and Ranae Veal, Hope Lives and a Breast Cancer Survivor, work together to bring this amazing gift to women who will live through a similar experience as Ranae:

“Hi everyone! I am Ranae Veal.  In March of 2022, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. During my journey, I have learned many valuable things. One thing that was most helpful and valuable to me, was a post surgical lift chair. These Lift Chairs are for women that have had the mastectomy surgical procedure. The idea is designed to give us a little comfort of being able to get up and down independently and lay comfortably to sleep. Post surgery, I had purchased my own chair and after utilizing it and realizing the benefits, I wanted to give women in Dickinson County this gift. With the backing of Hope Lives and our generous supporters, we have been able to purchase 3 new chairs that are available (free of charge) to post-op patients to utilize during their time of healing. You can check out a chair for 3 to 4 weeks before you go in for surgery so it is there and ready for you when you get home! I hope this serves its purpose and provides comfort to others, as it did for me, during a difficult battle!”
