Steven J. Schwarting, M.D., – Chairman

Steve Schwarting, M.D., served on the MHS Board of Directors from 2001 to 2012.  He was re-elected in 2015 and continues to serve MHS in several ways.  Dr. Schwarting received his undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona and his medical degree at the University of New Mexico.  He then completed his residency at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.  Dr. Schwarting retired in August 2013 after serving 36 years as a family medicine physician.  He and his wife, Toni, have four grown children and eleven grandchildren.

 

Kent Wyatt – Vice Chair

Kent Wyatt is a member of the Memorial Health System Board of Directors. He served on the board for many years, taking a few years off, and was re-elected in January 2022.  Mr. Wyatt was the Market President and Vice President of Residential Real Estate at Astra Bank in Abilene.  He is now retired and enjoys spending time with family and serving his community through his service on the hospital board.

 

Karman Diehl – Secretary

Karman was appointed as a member of the Memorial Health System Board of Directors in 2024.  Karman is a retired Human Resources expert.  She has a passion for community and a desire to help where she can.  Karman serves on numerous other committees for MHS, including the Quality Committee and the CHNA Committee, as well as other boards in Dickinson County.  She resides in Chapman, Kansas.

 

Dennis Biggs, M.D. – Board Member

Dennis Biggs, M.D., is a retired family physician.  After 37 years of practice in Abilene, he enjoys retirement by spending time with his wife Sheila, woodturning, golfing, and fishing.

 

Carol Whitehair – Board Member

Carol was appointed to the Board in January of 2026.  She brings more than 45 years of healthcare experience to the Board, including nearly 20 years as Director of Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County prior to her retirement in December 2021. Widely respected across Kansas for her regulatory expertise and leadership, Carol is a former President of the Kansas Home Care & Hospice Association and was inducted into the KHCHA Hall of Fame in 2023. She resides in Abilene, Kansas, and remains committed to advancing quality care to the patients of MHS.
