At Village Manor, we believe in creating opportunities for health, connection, and purposeful activity for our residents. Thanks to a Pathways to a Healthy Kansas grant through Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas, Village Manor was able to design and build accessible hospital garden spaces that enrich daily life for residents and invite community engagement.
These specially designed garden beds are raised to wheelchair height and connected by walkable paths, making it easier for seniors and individuals with limited mobility to participate in gardening activities and enjoy time outdoors. The gardens provide a space for physical activity, sensory stimulation, and social interaction, several benefits that contribute to overall well-being.
Three garden areas were created: one in each resident courtyard and an additional garden behind Village Manor that is open to the public. This inviting outdoor space encourages residents and community members alike to connect with nature, grow fresh produce and flowers, and enjoy a sense of accomplishment and relaxation.
The Hospital Gardens at Village Manor reflect our commitment to creating environments that support active living, healthy eating, and community inclusion, all key goals of the Pathways to a Healthy Kansas initiative.
