Volunteer Appreciation Bingo to be Part of National Healthcare Volunteer Week

A Memorial Health System Volunteer Appreciation Bingo Party will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 21, at the Nichols Education Center, 1003 N. Brady, in Abilene. Volunteers should park in the lot east of the building and use the east entrance. This is the lower level of Abilene Childcare Learning Center II. The theme for this year’s event is “Celebrating Memorial Health System Rock Star Volunteers!”

The event is a “Thank You” to MHS Volunteer Corps members and Hospice of Dickinson County volunteers for the tremendous care and support they provide to the health system. This event is being held during National Healthcare Volunteer Week which is April 18-24.

There will be bingo, food, prizes, and more. Memorial Health System Volunteer Corps members are encouraged to RSVP.

Our volunteers met the challenges of 2020 to remain an active part of Memorial Health System. Many of their volunteer hours were done from home due to the pandemic. Volunteers made cloth masks for our visitors and staff, wrote cards for patients and fellow volunteers, made phone calls to check on other volunteers, continued to make lap robes, wheelchair bags, baby blankets, and baby caps for newborns. When they were able to volunteer in person, with restrictions, they staffed the Memorial Hospital gift shop, sat with hospice patients, stuffed envelopes, and wrote thank you cards for memorial donations.

“We appreciate the commitment our volunteers continue to show to Memorial Health System and our communities, even with the struggles of a pandemic, they ROCK,” said MHS Director of Volunteer Services, Michelle McClanahan. 60 MHS Volunteers gave 3,198.25 hours in 2020, 44 Hospice Volunteers gave 330.50 hours in 2020.
