Herington Hero Award Winner, Susan Mueller

By Haley Jones, Director of Development and Marketing

Home Health & Hospice of Dickinson County in Herington, an affiliate of Memorial Health System in Abilene, has selected their first Herington Hero!

Staff from the Herington office had a desire to do something for their community to acknowledge the people that were doing great things, so at the beginning of June, a flyer was shared on the Herington Happenings Facebook page announcing the start of their “hero-seeking” initiative, and where to go for the nomination forms.  There is an online form on the Memorial Health System website, or paper forms can be picked up at the Home Health and Hospice office at 11 Broadway in Herington.

For this first round, four nominations came in.  Among those nominations was the winner for June,Susan Mueller, and this is what was said about her:  “Susan goes above and beyond to make it to events at the schools in the surrounding area and photographs the events. She loves kids and it shows with her story time, and activities she does at the local library. We are very lucky to have her in our community.  Susan has a love of animals, and has taken in many rescue farm animals.  She loves to take them to the local elementary school and educate the children about the animal and its care.  She inspires others to be active in the community and gets people involved in going to the library, which in a digital world is HUGE.”

“Although there were only four nominations to choose from, it was not easy.  The citizens of Herington that were nominated are all doing amazing things for our community,” said Shannon Walters, Supervisor at Home Health & Hospice of Dickinson County-Herington location.  “If the world was full of these kinds of people, it would definitely be a much better place!”

Susan was surprised by her nomination and said she loves working with the children in the community.  She explained, “If you want a good community to live in, you need to do everything you can to make it a good community. Every little bit helps.” Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County – Herington plans to continue doing this every month.  July 1 starts round two of nominations.  The staff plan to hold on to the nominations that have come in thus far, and add them to the list of possible winners for the next month.  If you know someone deserving of this award and want to share it with the Herington community please fill out the form online or stop by the Herington office!
