Memorial Health System’s (MHS) August Featured Employee of the Month is Jillian Shields, Staffing Coordinator, at Village Manor in Abilene.
Jillian has worked for Memorial Health System for almost two years, all at Village Manor as the Staffing Coordinator and she also works as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) for Village Manor. Jillian came on board after a previous employee of Village Manor called and told her that she felt like it would be a good fit; her friend’s reason, “because I manage my large family and all of their crazy lives and activities,” Jillian said.
Her job responsibilities at Village Manor include handling staffing, payroll, and supplies. “I wear many hats and play many small roles,” Jillian stated. When she was asked what are some of her favorites things are about her job, Jillian said, “I love that my position entangles with so many departments. I get to know and visit with, and pop by to say hi, to great people at Memorial Hospital in the pharmacy, lab, and the front desk, and also at the Home Health and Hospice office in Abilene…the list is endless.”
Jillian grew up in Smith Center and attended school there. She has education certifications from Cloud County Community College and she attended University of Phoenix. Jillian wanted to, someday, be an administrator of a hospital. “I have since discovered that providing administration with a supporting role is where I better serve healthcare,” she said.
Jillian and Thomas Pelfrey have a large family together, which includes six children: Jenna, almost 19 (also works at Village Manor); twins Kamdyn and Khloey, 14; Kambria, 12; Kalianna, 11; and Noah, 11. They also have two pugs, Poppy and Hazel.
Jillian loves gardening, cooking, baking, reading, singing, playing board games, and watching all of her kids in sports and activities.
The MHS Featured Employee of the Month has been selected by the Employer of Choice Council from the list of On the Spot Award winners received in the previous month. On the Spot awards are given to employees who show up to work, work hard every day, and go above and beyond their normal job duties.
