Hospice Offering Volunteer Training in Herington and Abilene

Hospice of Dickinson County is looking for compassionate individuals who want to make a difference in the communities we serve, and join the dedicated team of volunteers. New hospice volunteer training has been scheduled for those interested in becoming a volunteer. Anyone in Dickinson County is welcome to attend.

The class in Herington is scheduled for Tuesday, August 22, and Tuesday, August 29, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. These sessions will include a break for lunch. The classes in Herington will be at the office of Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County, 11 N. Broadway.

The class in Abilene will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 24, and Thursday, August 31, at the office of Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County, 1111 N. Brady. Light refreshments will be served.

The training is for individuals who would like to help support hospice patients and their families, and will include how the program works and how volunteers are an important part of the hospice program. Interested persons do need to attend both training sessions in either Herington or Abilene. RSVPs are not required but appreciated. Accommodations can be made for individuals, with serious interest in being a volunteer, who are not able to attend both sessions at these times.

There are many ways in which hospice volunteers can lend their time and unique talents. Whether helping support patients, caregivers, and families directly, or by assisting with administrative work, there is a special place for you on the hospice volunteer team. Volunteers do not provide any medical or hands-on care; they simply spend time with the patient and family.

To sign-up (not required, walk-ins welcome) or request more information, contact Adrianne Unruh, Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County Volunteer Coordinator, at (785) 263-6630 extension 6403, email at: adunruh@mhsks.org.
