Home Health & Hospice of Dickinson County in Herington, an affiliate of Memorial Health System in Abilene, has selected the next Herington Hero, and after much reluctance, our very own Shannon Walters, Nurse Supervisor, has agreed to receive the award for October. Congratulations Shannon and thank you for taking care of Herington!
Shannon’s nomination had this to say about her. “Shannon has helped so many people during the last days of their lives, and she has helped their families during a most difficult time. She is a ray of sunshine.” This nominator agrees that Shannon demonstrates exceptional service and leadership, and inspires others to do good for the community, and we at Memorial Health System could not agree more! Shannon always goes above and beyond, not only for her patients but her church, co-workers, and community.
Most recently, Shannon and a co-worker organized a food drive with the help of Kay’s Pharmacy, Barnes Heartland Foods, and Herington High School, to help employees of Herington Hospital after its sudden closing; leaving employees unsure of their immediate finances. Together they were able to help 20 employees and their families.
Together, Shannon and her staff at the Home Health & Hospice of Dickinson County Herington office, wanted to start the Herington Hero Award program, because they felt that the community needed reminding of all the good things that were happening all around them, and with that, give recognition to those individuals who were spreading the love to others. The last thing she probably expected was to have her name come up in the nominations, but it did, and we all think she is incredibly deserving of this award.
Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County in Herington plans to continue doing this every month. November 1 starts round six of nominations.
