Home Health and Hospice of Dickinson County in Herington, an affiliate of Memorial Health System in Abilene, has selected the next Herington Hero Award from the nominations gathered in May. Congratulations to Lori Dornbush, and thank you for taking care of Herington!
Lori is the Manager at Hilltop Community Center. The facility formerly known as the Herington High School and Middle School was renovated to include a community center open to all ages, 13 apartments, a community auditorium, and a recreation center. She also manages the Homestead Village Apartments.
The nomination had this to say about her:
“Lori cares about the seniors at Hilltop as well as the ones in their homes. I feel we are blessed to have someone like Lori taking care of the Meals on Wheels program. She demonstrates exceptional service, creativity, and leadership in everything she does. Lori inspires others with her ability to be so patient with all the helpers. Everyone returns to continue to help her get the job done.”
Kesa Riffel, Home Health and Hospice Quality Improvement and Office Coordinator, made a surprise visit to the Hilltop Community Center to tell Lori she was the next Herington Hero. Like so many of the heroes before her, Lori felt undeserving of this award and felt that “there are so many others in the community that do more than I do and are much more deserving.” Kesa disagrees and MHS seconds this opinion. Lori has served the Herington community for 21 years! That is a long, continuous time to give back to others so selflessly.
