Abilene Memorial Hospital Senior Life Solutions Program Welcomes New Program Therapist

Abilene – Memorial Hospital is pleased to welcome Mindy Nicholson, MS, LCAC, LCMFT as the new Program Therapist at the Senior Life Solutions program.

Senior Life Solutions, an intensive outpatient group therapy program, is designed to meet the unique needs of senior struggling with age-related depression, anxiety, difficult life transitions, a recent health diagnosis, or the loss of a loved one. As Program Therapist, Mindy Nicholson, will be responsible for providing therapeutic services for patients utilizing group, individual, and family therapy sessions. She will focus on quality patient care and provision of services ordered by a physician.

Mindy Nicholson is a KS state-licensed clinical marriage and family therapist as well as a licensed clinical addition counselor. Mindy opened her private practice, Sandstone Bridge Center, in the fall of 2009 and provided offices in Salina, McPherson and Great Bend. Currently she maintains a private practice at her farm where she continues to serves clients from surrounding areas.

Mindy specializes in brain based assessment and treatment of complex trauma, dual diagnosis, AD/HD, family/couple and relational issues. She is trained in a therapeutic technique called EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma and other mood disorders.  Mindy is excited to bring this specialization to the Senior Life Solutions program.

In addition to seeing individuals of all age groups, couples, same sex couples and families, Mindy also facilitates many group therapies. She developed a program called BrainCarma (Brain Care Karma) that incorporates therapeutic interventions that directly impacts brain functioning through improved neuroplasticity, brain and somatic centered exercises, nutritional assessment and other researched-based skill development. This program is geared toward all age groups and individuals wanting to improve their academic, work, brain health, social and sensory/motor skills.

Recognizing the importance of her community, Mindy serves on a number of civic boards, volunteers and promotes the awareness of mental health within the community by providing workshops, presentations, adjunct teaching at surrounding colleges and consulting services. In her free time, Mindy enjoys spending time with her family, gardening, playing guitar, singing and assisting her husband on their farm, Sandstone Acres.
